Full Moon Ritual: Release, Charge, and Celebrate Fully

The full moon is the peak of the lunar cycle, the moment of maximum light and maximum intensity. Where the new moon is quiet and internal, the full moon is expressive and often emotionally heightened. Things that have been building often reach a surface at the full moon. The full moon ritual honours this: it is the time for release, for gratitude, for charging crystals under the full light, and for acknowledging what has grown since the new moon intentions were set.

What you need

When to do it

The night of the full moon itself is the peak, but the full moon energy is potent for the 24 hours on either side. Leave your crystals out overnight to absorb the full moon's light.

Place your crystals in the moonlight

Set your crystals on a windowsill where they will receive direct moonlight, or outside if weather permits. State your intention for charging: 'I offer these stones to the full moon to be cleared, charged, and renewed.' Leave them overnight.

Cleanse your space

Use sage, palo santo, or a singing bowl to clear the energy of your space before the ritual. The full moon amplifies everything, including what is stale or heavy, so a clean space is particularly important.

Write your release list

By candlelight or quiet lamplight, write everything you are ready to release from this lunar cycle. What has served its purpose? What story about yourself are you done with? What resentment, pattern, or fear is ready to go? Write without editing.

Burn or tear the release paper

If it is safe to burn the paper, do so in a fireproof container outside or at a candle flame. If not, tear it into small pieces and dispose of it away from your home. As you release the paper, say: 'I release what is written here. I am done carrying it.'

Review your new moon intentions

Return to the intentions you set at the new moon. What has moved? What has arrived? Acknowledge what has grown, however small. The full moon is a time of gratitude for what the cycle has brought, not only a time of release.

Sit in the moonlight

If possible, sit where the moonlight can fall on you for a few minutes. If that is not possible, face a window where you can see the moon. Breathe slowly and receive the light. No agenda.

Collect your crystals in the morning

Before direct sunlight hits your light-sensitive stones, collect them. Hold each one and feel the difference in the charge. Thank the moon.
