Crystals for Meditation: Stones for Stillness and Presence
Meditation does not require a special room or an empty mind. It requires a small decision to stay with the present moment and notice what is happening without immediately chasing it. A crystal gives the practice something physical to return to: weight in the hand, texture beneath the fingers, and a simple reminder that stillness is something you practise rather than something you wait to feel.
The crystals to reach for
- Amethyst: A familiar meditation stone for quiet attention, intuition, and turning down mental noise.
- Clear Quartz: Creates a clean focal point for a new practice or a meditation with a specific intention.
- Selenite: Used to clear the space around a practice and support a feeling of lightness and simplicity.
- Lepidolite: A gentle choice when the mind is busy and the body needs permission to soften.
- Moonstone: Supports receptive, reflective practice and a closer relationship with changing inner states.
How to work with them
Start with one stone and one comfortable position. Hold it in your palm, place it in front of you, or set it beside the cushion. Let the breath be ordinary. When attention wanders, notice that it wandered and return to the stone's weight or the movement of breathing. The aim is not to create a special experience. It is to practise returning without making the return a failure.
A simple ritual to begin
Place your meditation crystal on a clean cloth. Light a candle only if it can be supervised safely, then sit for five minutes with both feet supported. On each inhale, notice the word here. On each exhale, notice the word now. When thoughts arise, let them pass and return to the stone. Close by thanking yourself for keeping the appointment, however the five minutes felt.
